The Joy on His Face Said It All — September at Hollywood Farms

Dear Friends of Hollywood Farms,

Sitting here in the pavilion writing this newsletter and marveling at the coming fall beauty, I am amazed at how well this hunting season has started.

I haven’t been this excited about bird season since I was a kid.

The whole Hollywood Farms family is energized as we launch into fall with the best habitat, best birds, best dogs, and the best hospitality we’ve ever had.

Our first dove shoot of the season was a huge success.

When you’re planning for doves, it starts the moment the previous season ends—field layout, stand locations, ground prep, planting, fencing, praying for rain—it’s a long runway.

And in the final week, you mow, and then you pray the birds are there.

This year, they were. The good Lord sent them.

The doves came in strong.

Groups of 4–10 birds floated in on the breeze from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., and every hunter on the field got their limit.

Some shot better than others, but all had a fantastic hunt.

My Lab, Gunnar, worked hard retrieving birds from the nearby cotton field, and I couldn’t be prouder. Sadie, Shane’s little cocker spaniel, was a joy to watch.

One longtime bird hunter told us:
“This was the best Georgia dove shoot I’ve ever been on.”

Dove season is fully booked for early season, and late season birds are always a gamble. If you want in on next year’s dove hunts, it’s not too early to reach out.

Our first quail hunts begin the week of October 20, and we’ll be running hunts all the way through March 20, 2026.

Many prime dates are already booked, but we still have a few select openings for half-day, full-day, and overnight experiences.

If you’re thinking about joining us this season, please get in touch soon to reserve your preferred dates – they won’t last long.

And as always, our overnight guests enjoy award-winning cuisine from Chef Scottie Johnson.

In three years, Scottie has never prepared the same entrée twice. One of our dove hunters summed it up last Saturday:
“Unbelievable food.”

When you visit Hollywood Farms, you are our only guests.

Every hunt, every meal, every detail is completely privatetotally personal, and designed to be a priceless experience for you and your guests.

One hunter last weekend brought his 12-year-old son to sit with him in the dove blind.

Before the hunt, we took him to the clays range. He’d never shot at live birds, but he was a good shot on clays. He quickly realized that birds don’t fly like programmed targets and said,
“This is hard!”

But he stuck with it—learning to mount from a relaxed position, tracking movement instead of memory—and he started hitting birds. He and his dad debated all day about who shot what, but by the time they left, the joy on that boy’s face said it all.

That’s what it’s all about.

We hope you’ll come experience what Hollywood Farms is about this season.

Lord willing, it will be beautiful from start to finish.

Sincerely,

Chuck Duggan & The Hollywood Farms Team
